2021 Toyota 4Runner Oil Filter in Peoria, AZ

Yes—the oil filter is replaced with the oil so the 2021 Toyota 4Runner leaves with fresh lubrication and fresh filtration together.

A used filter holds captured debris; leaving it in place can push the bypass valve to open sooner and circulate unfiltered oil. The manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and your driving conditions determine exact timing, but pairing a new filter with new oil is the standard approach. This keeps flow, pressure, and cleanliness consistent from day one.

• New filter installed to match this engine’s requirements
• New sealing surfaces and drain washer fitted
• Post-service run and leak check completed

The service includes removing the old filter, installing a matched new filter, renewing sealing surfaces, refilling with the specified oil, and conducting a leak check.

On the 2021 Toyota 4Runner, the technician also inspects the mounting base and replaces the drain plug washer to help prevent seepage. After refilling with the oil grade the manufacturer specifies for this engine, the engine is run to build pressure and verify clean sealing. • Old filter removed; mounting surface inspected
• Correct new filter and fresh seals installed
• Engine run, level verified, and leaks checked

The filter can load with debris, raise flow resistance, and trigger the bypass valve so oil circulates unfiltered.

Unfiltered oil still lubricates, but it carries abrasive particles that quietly increase wear over time. On a V6 used in hot, dusty, or stop‑and‑go conditions around Peoria, the risk rises as debris accumulates faster. Replacing the filter with the oil change helps maintain stable pressure, cleanliness, and protection between services.

• Higher restriction leads to bypass opening
• Unfiltered oil increases internal wear risk
• Fresh filter restores proper flow and capture

Yes—the filter is matched to this 4.0‑liter, 6‑cylinder engine and filters are not interchangeable across engines.

Using the correct filter supports proper fit, sealing, contaminant capture, and oil pressure behavior. Your technician will select a filter designed for the 4.0‑liter V6 so it works with the engine’s lubrication system and bypass characteristics. Avoid generic “will fit” parts; correct fitment protects your engine on every start.

• Matched to 4.0‑liter displacement and V6 configuration
• Supports correct sealing and pressure control
• Engineered media for debris capture efficiency

It can, but it is not recommended because the used filter may force bypass and circulate unfiltered oil.

Skipping the filter leaves yesterday’s debris trap in place while new oil tries to do its job. As the filter loads, restriction rises; the bypass valve can open, quietly reducing protection even though the oil is fresh. Replacing the filter with the oil change preserves clean flow and consistent filtration.

• Old filter may be partially restricted
• Bypass flow means unfiltered oil circulates
• New filter pairs with new oil for best results
