The 2018 Toyota C-HR is one of the few new vehicles advertising "bold design" that is true to its word. The subcompact crossover utility vehicle, whose name stands for Coupe High-Rider, looks more like a concept car debuting at an auto show than a production model. Yet here it is, in our inventory at Larry H. Miller Toyota Peoria.
Chief Designer Ian Cartabiano says his team was not afraid to be polarizing. "We took the challenge to stand out, and create something more exciting and dynamic," he explains.
According to Cartabiano, consumers today want vehicles that make a personal statement. They are not looking for a plain old car that blends in with the crowd. With the C-HR, Toyota created a compact crossover that looks and drives more like a high-lift sports coupe. Its sharp diamond-inspired lines, flared wheel wells, and sloping roof all create an engaging profile.
And if you don't like it?
"I don't need everybody to like it," says Cartabiano. "I want people to love it passionately."
