In news that won't surprise any Toyota owner, it was announced earlier this month that, according to the recently-released report "Top 300 Organizations Granted U.S. Patents in 2016," Toyota was awarded 1,540 United States patents in 2016 -- more than any other carmaker. As a matter of fact, Toyota was the only automaker listed among the top 20 patent awardees -- joining such illustrious company as Google, IBM, Apple and Microsoft.
This is the third consecutive year that Toyota has topped auto manufacturers on the publication from the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). Thanks to such cutting edge systems as Toyota Safety Sense™ and Entune 3.0, Toyota continues to lead the industry in engineering and developing better vehicles and technology.
In a press release, Jeff Makarewicz, group vice president, Toyota Motor North America Research & Development, stated, “As companies in the automotive industry transform themselves into broader mobility providers, no auto company better demonstrates innovation and technology for the future than Toyota. Toyota’s industry-leading patent numbers illustrate the company’s continuous success as global mobility and innovation front runner.”
