The Arizona Cardinals are Coming and We’re Ready!

Sorry, Santa—football season is often referred to as the “most wonderful time of the year,” especially in Arizona. The start of September means that our beloved Arizona Cardinals are about to be back in action for another glorious season. Who’s ready to go back to the University of Phoenix Stadium this fall?

The stats are in and we’re impressed. Kyle Odegard reports that in 2016, the Cardinals scored approximately 26.1 points per game—6th in the NFL as a whole! They also averaged 366.8 total offensive yards per game while maintaining 258.5 passing yards per game (also 6th in the NFL). With statistics like this, it’s no wonder we’re excited about another Cardinal season. The Cardinals have instructed fans to watch for potentially great offensive players like quarterback Carson Palmer, a 2015 candidate for MVP; David Johnson, superstar running back and one of the most exciting young players in the league; Larry Fitzgerald, one of the most beloved Cardinals of all time; D.J. Humphries, a former first-round pick who will be tasked with protecting Palmer’s blind side; and John Brown, on a mission to recover his dominance on the field after battling sickness.

The big questions for this season lie in the defensive backfield and on special teams, two areas the Cardinals struggled with last season. Star safety Tyrann Mathieu struggled a bit as he recovered from a torn ACL. He will need to return to his former glory, as safeties Tony Jefferson and D.J. Swearinger departed in free agency. Rookie safety Budda Baker has been a great addition, and the team is excited to see him play in big games this season.

On special teams, kicker Chandler Cantanzaro was let go after a shaky season. Veteran Phil Dawson was signed in the off-season, and many Cardinals fans believe this is a large upgrade. Although he is 42 years old, Dawson has connected on 87.5 percent of his field goal attempts and 96.4 percent of his PATs.
